Know Your Eriocaulon

Eriocaulon is used in the aquarium world for foreground and midground plants. It is more of a show quality plant versus anything else – putting your skills to the test for it’s sheer beauty and uniqueness in an aquarium tank. Most all Eriocaulon require high light conditions, Co2, and a fert regiment.

Eriocaulon Propagation

Eriocaulon is one of the more delicate plants to propagate versus other aquarium plants. This involving splitting or carving the actual plant into two.

Splitting is what happens naturally from the Eriocaulon after good conditions are met it will have a miniature Erio growing from it’s side. You can safely break it off and replant once it has a good enough root system.

Carving Eriocaulon is the quicker method of propagation but is also riskier. Using a very sharp blade, take a healthy Eriocaulon with a good root system and cut exactly down the middle; Giving each side equally enough roots and leaves. Hopefully if done right, they will recovery and start regrowing back quickly.

Word of Caution: We recommend learning how to carve on cheaper Eriocaulons before attempting to carve a rare Erio.
